Job Description

The Physics and Astronomy Department at Barnard College seeks a part-time instructor to teach the following undergraduate course during the 2025-2026 academic year.

Spring 2026

PHYS BC 1882 Pre-Health Physics II

Teach Spring semester lecture course in introductory, calculus-based physics sequence. Hold office hours weekly. Meet with students as needed. Arrange TA. Grade exams and assign final grade. The instructor will cover relevant sections of chapters 21-36 of Halliday, Resnick, & Walker, Fundamentals of Physics, 12th edition.

Subjects covered: Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, Interference, Diffraction.

Pay Rate: $13,250

*Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair or Director.*

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications

Terminal degree in a related discipline, with all requirements for the degree completed by the time of hiring offer.

Required Skills

A strong pedagogical sense and ability to teach Physics to Biology, Neuroscience, and Environmental Science majors on the trajectory to medical school.

Required Experience

2 years of prior teaching experience.

Required Schedule Requirements

Course meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:40 PM - 3:55 PM. Must be available those days.
