Description
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Carnegie Mellon University seeks an Adjunct Professor of Professional Practice to teach chemical engineering courses and engage in industry outreach that advances the mission of the Center for Advanced Process Decision-making (CAPD). This position combines academic teaching responsibilities with strategic relationship-building in the private sector to expand CAPD's collaborative research network.
Key Responsibilities
Academic
- Teach undergraduate or graduate courses as assigned, including preparation of lectures, assignments, and assessments.
- Support student learning through office hours, mentoring, and feedback on coursework.
- Participate in department curriculum improvement activities.
Industry Engagement & Partnership Development
- Identify and engage emerging and established private-sector companies whose work aligns with the CAPD mission.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners to support long-term collaboration.
- Recruit targeted companies to join CAPD as member organizations.
- Facilitate participation in competitive research and development proposal opportunities, with a particular emphasis on opportunities offered through U.S. National Laboratories.
- Collaborate with CAPD leadership to develop strategic outreach plans and partnership pipelines.
Qualifications
- PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in unit operations and applied chemical engineering practice.
- Strong industry network and proven experience in cultivating external partnerships.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Prior university teaching experience is preferred but not required.
