FIN 304.1, New Venture Financing

Undergraduate Spring Semester, 03/02/2026 - 05/31/2026

The study of raising capital for new ventures involving start-up businesses, financing a strategic unit or project within an existing company, and solving financial problems unique to small- and medium-sized firms undergoing rapid growth. Topics for this course include raising seed capital from venture capital, business angels, investment banking, and commercial banking sources; legal and regulatory issues that arise in new venture financing; exit strategies and financial modeling to determine the financial health of companies and strategies for their growth.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in Finance or a closely related field and a recent publication record in the field, OR
• A master's degree in finance or a closely related field and five years of current, relevant professional experience.
• Candidates should have a successful record of teaching experience at the undergraduate level and experience/familiarity with online/hybrid instruction in order to prepare for contingencies. This position requires all course work to be performed in the state of California. Candidates must perform all course-related work within the state of California.

Salary: $6,480 and $10,308 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU 1021, who have previously taught the course or BUSAD 111, available here.
