Rutgers University–New Brunswick’s School of Engineering (SOE) invites applications for multiple faculty positions across all ranks and areas of expertise. CHEMICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL ENGINEERING OPENINGS
The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering (CBE) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick invites applications for tenured/tenure-track faculty positions at all ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor) in the strategic priority areas of Healthcare Technology and Innovations in Energy. We also invite applications for non-tenure track teaching faculty positions at the ranks of Assistant and Associate Professor in the strategic priority areas of Healthcare Technology and Experiential Learning and Professional Education.
Position Description
We seek outstanding candidates whose research and teaching interests contribute to the department’s growth areas in Biomanufacturing, Pharmaceutical Engineering, and/or Clean Energy and Sustainability. Successful candidates will complement existing research and educational strengths in biotechnology & biomolecular engineering, pharmaceutical engineering, clean energy & sustainability, soft matter & advanced materials, and computing & data science. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor students in CBE core areas and in biomanufacturing/pharmaceutical engineering and/or clean energy and sustainability; conduct collaborative, interdisciplinary research across Rutgers and with external partners; and contribute to departmental, school, and professional service. Candidates with demonstrated experience or a strong interest in industry collaboration are especially encouraged to apply.
Biomanufacturing and Pharmaceutical Engineering
Areas of particular interest for tenure-track positions include:
• Biomanufacturing of bioproducts, biologics, cell and gene therapies, and/or vaccines
• Chemical synthesis and manufacturing of pharmaceutical drugs and products
• AI/ML and data science applications for bio/pharmaceuticals design, discovery, process development, scale-up, and manufacturing
• Self-driving labs and automation for advanced manufacturing of bio/pharmaceuticals
In addition to tenure-track openings in this area, the department invites applications for a non-tenure track teaching faculty position. We seek an enthusiastic educator dedicated to preparing students for impactful careers in the biomanufacturing and pharmaceutical industries. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomanufacturing, pharmaceutical engineering, and core CBE topics; contribute to curriculum innovation; engage with industry partners; support workforce development initiatives, and participate actively in departmental, school, and professional service.
Clean Energy and Sustainability
Areas of particular interest for tenure-track positions include:
• Carbon circularity and industrial decarbonization
• Waste upcycling and sustainable materials synthesis
• Critical minerals and materials recovery using biological and non-biological approaches
• Electrified processes for sustainable and energy-efficient manufacturing
• Bio/polymeric materials synthesis, modeling, and characterization
• Computational modeling, AI/ML & data sciences for materials discovery and process development
Qualifications
Applicants should have a PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline. Those with demonstrated excellence in research, potential for or record of external funding, and a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply.
