Assistant Dean of Experiential Education
Job Summary
The Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications to join the leadership team. The Assistant Dean for Experiential Education is a full-time administrative with a faculty appointment (open-rank). The position offers opportunities to advance within the administrative position and faculty rank. This position reports to the Dean of the Fisch College of Pharmacy and provides key leadership for the oversight, design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the experiential curriculum at the Fisch College of Pharmacy. The Assistant Dean provides strategic direction and leadership for the Office of Experiential Education and plays a vital role in advancing the experiential components of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
- Lead the development, assessment, and execution of innovative, effective experiential education, including didactic and practice aspects of the experiential curriculum
- Oversee and evaluate experiential education faculty and staff
- Develop and provide preceptor development programs
- Oversee the placement, and related processes, of students at clinical sites
- Build and sustain strong partnerships with preceptors and clinical sites, ensuring quality and diversity of practice experiences
- Ensure that all aspects of the experiential program comply with accreditation standards
- Implement and manage continuous quality improvement and quality assurance for all aspects of the experiential curriculum
- Prepare and manage the budget for the Office of Experiential Education responsibly and strategically
- Oversee the process for affiliation agreements with clinical sites, including the review and compliance with such agreements
- Oversee the preparation and onboarding of students for rotations
- Provide strategic and visionary leadership for the experiential program
- Contribute to the broader mission of the College as a member of the Executive Committee
- Teach in experiential components of the Pharm.D. program and other coursework as assigned
- Serve as a preceptor for experiential education coursework as needed
- Engage in professional development specific to experiential education
- Engage in research and scholarship specific to experiential education
- Maintain affiliation with necessary professional organizations
- Effectively collaborate with appropriate committees, faculty, staff, and administrators
- Serve on University and/or College committees as assigned
- Represent the interests of The University of Texas at Tyler and the College of Pharmacy at the local, state, and national levels
- Promote a safe and respectful academic environment for faculty, staff, and students
- Positively contribute to the culture of the Office and Experiential Education and College
- Perform other duties as requested by the Dean of the College
Required Education/Experience
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree or equivalent
- Academic experience at the rank of Associate or Full Professor
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in pharmacy practice, precepting, and academic leadership in experiential education
- Record of excellence in pharmacy practice, teaching, research and scholarship, and service to the academy and profession
Preferred Education / Experience
- Completion of a pharmacy residency
- Active pharmacist license in Texas or eligibility for licensure in Texas
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of experiential education standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in pharmacy practice and pharmacy education
- In-depth understanding of pharmacy curricula, including integration of experiential and didactic components
- Demonstrated ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision for experiential education
- Proven skill in data-informed decision-making, including assessment and analysis of educational outcomes
- Demonstrated success in managing and leading teams with integrity, accountability, and collaboration
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build consensus
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with a record of effective follow-through on complex projects
- Awareness of emerging trends in pharmacy practice and experiential learning innovation
- Proven ability to establish, implement, and uphold policies and procedures consistent with college and university governance.
- Demonstrated record of professionalism, collegiality, and working well with others
- Proven record of positive contributions to the workplace culture

Additional Information
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
