Primary Responsibilities

Southeast Missouri State University (Southeast) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) of Criminal Justice position to begin August 2026. We seek candidates with an innovative mindset and a PhD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related field.

This is a 10-month tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor; exceptional candidates already holding tenure and at least the rank of associate professor may be considered for hire as an Associate Professor with tenure.

The area of specialization is open, and the position includes teaching in face-to-face and online formats at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate for this position will teach the equivalent of a 12-hour course load per semester in general criminal justice areas, engage in an active research agenda and scholarly productivity within the field of criminal justice or criminology, and participate in academic advising, committee work, public service, and on-campus engagement. Participation in service activities including active participation in recruitment and retention activities is required. Previous faculty experience in higher education is a plus

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or ABD (with Ph.D. by August 2026) in criminology, criminal justice, or related field. Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university.
  • Evidence of or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in higher education.
  • Ability to teach in multiple modalities (in-person, hybrid, online).
  • Demonstrated research agenda that allows for publication.
  • Demonstrated experience or potential in on-campus engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience or potential in public service and outreach.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Successful candidates will contribute to the development of innovative curricula and delivery strategies, including traditional, blended and online formats, and participate in initiatives promoting student success, retention, and degree completion.
