Athletic Trainer

Department Summary

UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs with approximately 90 full-time career and contract and over 1,000 part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and wellbeing services, and offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, the department manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, competition, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Recreational Sports, coordinate athletic injury prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of UCLA student-athletes. Organize injury prevention programs. Share responsibility for Athletic Training services for various teams as assigned by the Associate Director. Training services to include: coordination of physical exams for team, evaluation and treatment of injuries, design and supervision of rehabilitation programs, and supervise and direct student Athletic Trainers assigned to practice and game taping. Communicate and document athletes' progress to athletic training staff, physicians, conditioning staff and coaches. Maintain written and computerized documentation on all athletes' injuries, treatments and rehabilitation. Refer injured athletes to UCLA team physicians as appropriate. Organize informative bimonthly in-service seminars. Perform other duties as assigned by the ADRS. The employee will independently prioritize and complete ongoing tasks following established departmental guidelines and University policies. Periodic in-progress checks of work are made. Performance is formally reviewed annually.

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • Previous NCAA Division I experience (Preferred)
  • 3-5 years of collegiate athletic training experience (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and athletic injury mechanisms. (Required)
  • Ability to perform comprehensive injury evaluations and design effective treatment programs. (Required)
  • Proficiency in therapeutic exercise techniques and rehabilitation equipment operation. (Required)
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with coaches, medical staff, and students. (Required)
  • Skilled in taping, bracing, manual therapy, and other orthopedically-relevant modalities. (Required)
  • Knowledge of systemic conditions affecting athletic participation. (Required)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast-paced clinical setting. (Required)
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and other medical documentation software. (Required)
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional discretion in handling sensitive information. (Required)
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and across multidisciplinary teams. (Required)
  • Knowledge of university health policies, NCAA/NATA standards, and other applicable regulations. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. (Required)
  • Master's Degree Master’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field (Preferred)
  • Certified as an Athletic Trainer in good standing with the NATABOC (National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification). prior to hire, maintained during employment (Required)
  • Must be CPR/AED certified within first 3 months of employment (Required)
  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) membership (Preferred)

Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".

Schedule

8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. PT/variable based upon operational needs.
