Short summary
The post holder will work within the Licencing and Compliance Team, holding responsibility for compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), Home Office requirements and international best practice, while supporting the effective delivery of the licencing activities including managing a subset of new project licence applications and handling processes within life span of projects. The role combines regulatory advice and hands-on service around project licences delivery to enable high-quality science. The post holder will work independently, with a minimum of supervision, reporting regularly to senior BRF management and liaising with the Francis Crick Institute Scientists and BRF staff at various levels.
Key Responsibilities
Typical activities include:
- Managing the lifecycle of project licences, supporting the drafting, submission and renewal of licences to ensure high-quality and timely applications.
- Providing those working with research animals with expert guidance on regulatory requirements, licence interpretation and compliance under ASPA.
- Managing licensing records and supporting regulatory reporting, including, standard condition 18 reports, returns, retrospective reviews and assessments.
About you
You will have:
- A degree qualification or equivalent experience in a related science field. *
- An interest in biomedical research and a willingness to work with animals and develop knowledge and understanding of the research programs at the Crick, of the Crick’s objectives, policies, practices and aims.
- Sound knowledge of ASPA 1986 and Home Office licensing requirements and good knowledge of the ethical requirements of research using live animals. *
- Skilled interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with and provide authoritative advice to a range of internal & external stakeholders *
- Ability to organise and prioritise own workload and multitask to meet defined and conflicting deadlines, fluctuations in function and resource availability to deliver the expected standards required working under minimum supervision. *
- Ability to generate and maintain accurate records with an ability to analyse ambiguous data and concepts rigorously.
