Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Police is seeking a Community Service Officer Supervisor in Phoenix, Arizona. This position provides oversight and management of loss prevention and/or security services to the community to protect life and property, and preserve the general welfare of the institution. The Community Service Officer Supervisor is distinguished from the Community Service Officer (CSO) in that incumbents typically perform a wider variety of duties of greater complexity and diversity. Incumbents work relatively independently and exercise professional judgment within assigned function and lead other staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees the activities and schedules of assigned CSO personnel who maintain security and safety of people and property on campus.
  • Supervises and coordinates campus patrols conducted by CSOs, ensuring coverage in marked department vehicles, on foot, or via bicycle as necessary.
  • Conducts briefings.
  • Develops and coordinates training and special assignments for CSOs.
  • Provides guidance and support to CSOs and coordinates with appropriate authorities as necessary.
  • Receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic.
  • Performs routine duties to preserve the general welfare of the campus through enforcement and/or education of state laws and referral of applicable university rules and regulations.
  • Reviews and approves police reports on minor incidents not involving felony investigations, such as stolen, found, or lost property, and criminal damage, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinates emergency response efforts with campus authorities ensuring proper execution during emergencies.
  • Mediates conflicts and disputes on campus, employing de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills to maintain a peaceful environment.
  • Serves as a liaison and cooperates with various campus and other law enforcement agency personnel, as well as student and other individual groups.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation related to safety incidents, investigations, training activities, and other relevant matters.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts/days off and work holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successfully pass an in-depth background investigation to include passing a polygraph examination.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Must have a valid drivers license as this position will require frequent trips to other Phoenix area satellite campuses and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with campus law enforcement procedures.
  • Experience with campus security.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), each year the University of Arizona releases an Annual Security Report (ASR) for each of the University's campuses. These reports disclose information including Clery crime statistics for the previous three calendar years and policies, procedures, and programs the University uses to keep students and employees safe, including how to report crimes or other emergencies and resources for crime victims. As a campus with residential housing facilities, the Main Campus ASR also includes a combined Annual Fire Safety report with information on fire statistics and fire safety systems, policies, and procedures. Paper copies of the Reports can be obtained by contacting the University Compliance Office at cleryact@arizona.edu.
