Task:
The successful applicant will pursue a global history research project (18th-19th centuries) starting October 1, 2025, collaborate on third-party funding applications for the research area, and be involved in the activities of the Friedrich Meinecke Institute.
Requirements:
Completed academic university degree in a suitable subject and doctorate in history or a related discipline
Desired:
very good dissertation in history or a related discipline on a topic that can be considered global history in the broadest sense (completed/defended dissertation at the time of the interview);
very good knowledge of English (C1) and the languages relevant to the research project; sufficient knowledge of German (B2) to participate in the institute's activities, or willingness to acquire it; in-depth knowledge of the relevant academic debates and approaches in global and social history; a well-thought-out global history research project; publications in academic journals; projects that establish far-reaching connections and/or link world regions; knowledge of the modern and contemporary history of the Indian Ocean region.
