The Lebanese American University School of Pharmacy invites applications for the position of Director of Experiential Education. The School seeks a dynamic, visionary, and accomplished pharmacy educator, scholar and academic leader with demonstrated expertise in academic administration, accreditation, curriculum innovation and competency-based approaches, experiential education, interprofessional education and pharmacy education and practice.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for all experiential education initiatives and programs, across undergraduate and professional, and collaborate with the director (s) of postgraduate residency pharmacy programs. This leadership role is central to highlighting the uniqueness of the experiential training at the School, advancing high-quality experiential learning opportunities that promote excellence in patient care, professional development, interprofessional collaboration, and innovation in pharmacy education.

The director will oversee the development, implementation, assessment, and continuous quality improvement of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs), Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs), observerships, internships, and collaborative residency-related experiential activities. The position also serves as a key liaison between the School, affiliated practice sites, residency programs, healthcare institutions locally and internationally, and professional organizations nationally and internationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and advance experiential education programs and strategic initiatives in all settings
  • Oversee student placement, onboarding, scheduling, and continuous quality assurance for experiential rotations
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards for ACPE and AACP requirements
  • Support integration of social and behavioral sciences such as advocacy, communication, ethics, interprofessional education, professionalism, public health, and social determinants of health within the didactic and experiential training.
  • Collaborate with the director (s) of residency programs on postgraduate training initiatives
  • Expand and strengthen partnerships with healthcare systems, pharma industry, ambulatory care sites, and community practice settings.
  • Expand and strengthen partnerships with our US affiliated sites and identify opportunities for students and post-graduate education.
  • Expand and strengthen partnerships with our US affiliated sites and identify opportunities for clinical training for our faculty, in coordination with pharmacy practice chairperson
  • Engage with emerging areas such as AI in pharmacy education, clinical training, simulation and practice.
  • Collaborate with Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Chairpersons and Residency Directors to create spiral competencies and continuity from one learner level to another, with the intent to highlight the uniqueness of the BS and PharmD program graduates, the edge of their education and to positively impact patient care and experiences.
  • Support faculty, preceptors, and preceptors’ development to ensure quality education during experiential learning in coordination with pharmacy practice chairperson
  • Contribute to the evaluation of experiential preceptors in coordination with pharmacy practice chairperson
  • Oversee assessment-driven continuous improvement and innovation in experiential learning
  • Facilitate internship, observership, and specialty pharmacy training opportunities
  • Enhance visibility and impact of experiential education programs internally and externally
  • Mentoring learners and contributing to teaching, scholarship, service, and institutional advancement
  • Engaging in advocacy and policy-related work within pharmacy or healthcare systems.
  • Support in relevant goals of the health system strategic plan especially Goal 2 and Goal 7.

Qualifications:

  • Pharm.D., and or Ph.D. degree with advanced academic and/or clinical qualifications at the Associate Professor level.
  • Valuable potential for teaching and contribution to the didactic and experiential curriculum, students’ soft skills and affective domain development
  • Significant experience and or potential in experiential education, pharmacy practice, or academic administration
  • Demonstrated leadership and or experience in accreditation (ACPE preferred), curriculum development, mapping and integrated modules, pedagogies skills laboratories, simulation, OSCEs, assessment, and faculty or preceptor mentorship is preferred.
  • Experience in interprofessional education (IPE), including designing and facilitating IPE activities in both didactic and/or experiential settings.
  • Experience integrating technology, digital health, AI applications, informatics, and data analytics into teaching and curriculum delivery.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative leadership skills
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity including educational research, professional engagement, and commitment to excellence in pharmacy education
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
