Applications are invited for the position of Facility Cleaner at the Sainsbury Laboratory, a research Institute which focuses on plant developmental biology and computational modelling of plant development. Our £4 million plant growth Facility comprises 6 glasshouse areas and 42 growth chambers. You will be integrated within the Horticulture team which work is essential for the research mission of the Institute.

Your main day-to-day duties centre around cleaning and waste management, involving heavy manual handling tasks within a containment level 1 Facility. Other duties include work with chemicals and dealing with biological (plant) waste.

Previous experience of cleaning in an academic or scientific laboratory environment is essential, as is the ability to adhere to strict protocols. Experience working in containment facilities is desirable. Your tasks are essential in the maintenance of good horticultural practice within the Facility, which is paramount to the success of the institute.

Candidates must be educated to GCSE level grade A-C/NVQ level 2 or equivalent in a science subject or have equivalent level of practical experience.

You will have a high level of attention to detail, a service orientated approach and excellent communication skills. A key requirement of the post is the ability to build positive working relationships within the horticulture team and with colleagues at all levels in research, support and administration. A flexible approach to work is required as this will be essential when carrying out a range of duties, including providing support and assistance to other members of the Facility Team.

The role holder will report to the Horticultural Facility Manager with weekly tasks overseen by the Facility Supervisor alongside two other team members.
