About Us

We are the UCL Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. The Bartlett is unrivalled in its breadth and depth of disciplines, programmes and departments. It is made up 13 Schools, Institutes, Centres and Units, providing teaching and research in a wide range of subject areas to over 4,000 students each year from across the world. The Faculty is part of the School of the Built Environment, Engineering and Mathematical and Physical Sciences (BEAMS). The post holder is part of the Faculty Operations Team, delivering strategic and day-to-day finance support to the Bartlett faculty and all departments.

About the Role

This maternity cover fixed‑term/secondment role runs from 22 June 2026 to 18 September 2027.

The Faculty Finance Officer manages the financial administration of the Faculty Office and new academic institutes during their start‑up phases. The role ensures robust financial procedures and focuses on expenditure monitoring, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. It supports senior stakeholders including the Director and Deputy Director of Operations, Faculty Operations Manager, Dean, and Institute Directors. The postholder delivers a high‑quality, timely finance service and plays a key part in training, knowledge sharing, and ensuring consistent financial practice across the Faculty.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Finance Systems: Advise on and manage annual budgets and forecasts with senior stakeholders; work closely with the School finance team across all budget cycles and month/year‑end processes; provide regular management information for decision making; service relevant committees; and deliver staff briefings on financial procedures.
  • Financial Reporting & Planning: Prepare budgets and forecasts; agree, manage and monitor budgets with senior stakeholders; liaise with the School finance team on annual cycles and month/year‑end processes; produce clear monthly management information; service relevant committees; and provide guidance on financial procedures.
  • Financial Processing & Procurement: Manage day‑to‑day financial processing (transfers, journals, expenses, credit cards, requisitions, purchase orders, invoices); ensure compliance with UCL financial regulations; monitor expenditure and highlight potential overspends; and oversee supplier setup and management.
  • General Finance Administration: Act as the first point of contact for finance queries; advise on UCL procedures and regulations; maintain accurate financial records; liaise with central teams on correct tax treatment of income; provide cover during absences or peak periods; comply with health and safety requirements; and undertake other duties appropriate to the role.

About You

You are an experienced finance professional with strong knowledge of financial administration, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, gained through a degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience. You are confident in using online finance systems and have advanced Excel skills, alongside excellent all‑round IT capability. You have strong analytical, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to present clear financial information to senior colleagues. The role requires a high level of accuracy, discretion and confidentiality, the ability to prioritise under pressure, and a willingness to learn new systems quickly. You will be committed to providing a responsive, supportive service, contributing positively to the Faculty, developing others, and actively supporting equality, diversity and inclusion. Experience in higher education or a research environment, and/or being part‑qualified or studying towards an accounting qualification is desirab le, but not essential.
