Description:

The successful candidate will join a team of geophysicists who are responsible for the Oklahoma Geological Survey (OGS) seismic network at the University of Oklahoma's Norman campus. The position is Geophysicist III, a non-tenured/non-tenure-track faculty scientist position. The scientist will work with the OGS and Mewbourne College staff, faculty, and students, as well as external collaborators, to conduct research in areas of earth and energy geosciences and applied geophysics. They will also interface with industry, state regulators, and the general public.

The OGS seismic network has undergone a state-funded upgrade, now hosting 130 seismic stations and bringing in new techniques such as DAS. A small but high-preforming team of excellent field technicians, network operators, and data analysts run the network. This position will add to that group, sharing many of these responsibilities. However, the most important component of this specific position will be to focus on external funding and publication strategies to continue this growth into new areas such as AI, build staff resilience, and increase the visibility and reputation of the network. The scientist will present findings at scientific conferences, public forums, regulators, and policymakers, as well as write reports and peer-reviewed articles. The successful candidate will play a key role with the broader Oklahoma Geological Survey, Mewbourne College, and University of Oklahoma missions.
