Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total affairs of the college.

Under general supervision, this individual will develop, prepare and teach Civil Engineering Technology courses in the areas of drafting, surveying, and structural analysis designed for career technical programs. The successful candidate will also be responsible for recruiting and advising students. The faculty member will collaborate with industry partners to ensure relevancy of the curriculum and provide necessary training and education. This person is responsible for facilitating the Civil Engineering/Geomatics Technology Advisory Committee and serving as a member, as well as recruiting industry professionals to join the Advisory Committee.

Education Required

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics or a related engineering discipline with 18 graduate hours in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Geomatics from an institutional accreditor.

Education Preferred

  • Doctoral degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics or a related engineering discipline with 18 graduate hours in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Geomatics from an institutional accreditor.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer or Professional Land Surveyor

Experience Required

  • 3 years relevant industry experience in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Teaching and/or industry training experience in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Geomatics topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Autodesk Revit, or SolidWorks.

Experience Preferred

  • Greater than 3 years relevant industry experience in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience in the areas of dynamics, statics, strength of materials, surveying, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience with Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accreditation.
  • Experience with drones and GNSS equipment preferred.
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes preferred.
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems preferred.
