The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Computer Information Systems, De Anza College.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy. All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

The principal responsibility of a Computer Science Instructor is to teach a variety of college-level courses in computer programming, algorithms and data structures, artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity, mobile computing, data science and management, and computer networking. Assignments may include day, evening, or weekend courses. The teaching assignments will include in-person courses each term, as well as online and hybrid courses delivered synchronously and asynchronously. Instruction should appropriately integrate computer technology into both lecture and laboratory activities.

In addition to teaching, standard duties include the development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, serving on District and/or College committees, assessing student learning outcomes, and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor.

Instructors are expected to serve on district and college committees and participate in campus extracurricular activities, including but not limited to:

  • engagement with the community as a representative of their discipline and department
  • participation in departmental, college-wide and district-wide planning
  • commitment to diversifying curriculum delivery to best meet the evolving needs of our students (e.g., Credit for Prior Learning, Competency-Based Education, short-term course offerings, Dual Enrollment, and incarcerated student offerings)

In addition, instructors are expected to maintain a commitment and sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff, and uphold a commitment to integrating equity practices in the College's Instructional Programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's degree in computer science or computer engineering OR Bachelor's degree in either of the above AND Master's degree in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting, or engineering OR Bachelor's degree in engineering AND Master's degree in cybernetics, engineering mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's degree in mathematics AND Master's degree in cybernetics, engineering mathematics, or business administration OR Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in information science, computer information systems, or Information systems OR the equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Strong ability in teaching computer programming, algorithms and data structures, artificial intelligence, software engineering, cybersecurity, mobile computing, data science and management, and computer networking.
  2. Teaching experience at the community college, university, or high school level; or equivalent professional industry experience.
  3. Ability to and willingness to continuously improve instructional quality and enhance student learning through innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods (e.g., collaborative learning, service learning, learning communities, instructional technology, and online education).
  4. Demonstrated ability to stay current with evolving industry practices, trends, and technologies.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to use instructional methods that reflect cultural sensitivity and to effectively teach a diverse student population with a demonstrated commitment to equity.

In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  1. Experience with pedagogy that engages and motivates students in their own learning process and develops critical thinking skills.
  2. Willingness to make positive contributions to the department and the greater work of the college.
  3. Commitment to professional growth.
  4. Ability to assume a leadership role in developing innovative Computer Science and Computer Information Systems curricula.

HIRING RANGE: $76,596.00 - $123,297.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-time, Tenure-track, 10-months per year.

STARTING DATE: Fall 2026.
