AUT's Research Ethics Office plays an essential role ensuring AUT delivers on its ambition to undertake high quality ethical research and this role is fundamental to ensuring our university's research ethics and processes are fit for purpose and we provide the essential service to help make our Researchers life easier and research to happen!

About the role | Kōrero mō te tūranga

This newly established leadership role is focused on people, culture, and transformation. You’ll manage a team of five consultants, specialists, and an educator, working collaboratively with the Research Office and other areas across the University. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and mentoring the team through change
  • Managing complaints and ethics triage
  • Communicating effectively with senior and emerging researchers
  • Embedding our transformation project
  • Building a cohesive and high performing team culture
  • Supporting a service-focused approach to research ethics

About you | Kōrero mōu

We are looking for an experienced and confident leader and a strategic thinker with a passion for service and curiosity for knowledge creation. You bring:

  • Proven experience leading teams through transition and uncertainty
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to navigate complex personalities with maturity and professionalism
  • Experience in tertiary or research-focused environments
  • Interest in generative AI and future-focused systems
  • A mindset of “How can I help?” serving researchers and enabling great research
