The rapidly growing Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler School of Engineering at Chapman University invites applications for a non-tenure track, open rank position including ranks of Instructor, Instructional Assistant Professor, or Instructional Associate Professor of Software Engineering, beginning in August 2026.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach 8 courses (24 credits) per academic year, have opportunities to mentor students, and integrate industry experience into capstone projects.

Courses may include, and are not limited to: CPSC230 – Computer Science I (Python), CPSC231 – Computer Science II (Java), CPSC298 – C++ Programming, SE 300 – Software Requirements and Testing, SE 310 – Software Design, SE 320 – The Software Development Lifecycle, SE 420 – Formal Methods in Software Engineering, SE 498 – Software Engineering Capstone Project.

Qualifications

Requirements include an M.S. in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, data science, computational science, or electrical engineering and successful teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.

Those seeking the rank of Assistant or Associate must have a Ph.D. in computer science, computer engineering, computational science, data science, software engineering, or electrical engineering, with significant teaching experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong industry and teaching experience in the fields of software engineering.

Application review will start January 19, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $135,000 per year. Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. Appointment is contingent upon final budget approval.
