Pay Range: $1,420 - $1,700 per credit hour
Pay Determination:
Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description:
The School of Art within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach ARI 221.2 Ceramics Handbuilding, a three credit hour course, during the Spring semester, 2026.
Introduces and familiarizes the student with basic methods of preparing and forming clay using pinch, coil and slab construction techniques. Includes basic methods of decorating, glazing and firing ceramic objects. Explores sculptural and functional art works.

Qualifications:
- MFA or MFA Candidate required.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Teaching hand-building techniques for making ceramic forms.
- Teaching surface techniques for ceramics.
- Understanding kilns and kiln firing.
- Understanding of historical and contemporary uses of clay in art, design and architecture.
Responsibilities:
Meet all class meetings. Hold office hours. Assist students with all aspects of making, finishing and firing ceramics.
In addition:
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Preparation of lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meeting all designated class periods.
- If you are unable to meet your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute.
- You must also notify the department chair of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
- Submitting completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
Physical Requirements:
Some lifting of 50lbs or less.
