Part Time Sociology Instructor (Dual Credit Columbus High School)
Job Summary
Provide curriculum instruction to dual credit high school students in the field of Sociology, at the Columbus High School Campus, on at least 2 weekdays for selected times that will fall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Principal Accountabilities
- Must be able to teach to dual credit high school students in the field of Sociology, at the Columbus High School Campus, on at least 2 weekdays for selected times that will fall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Needs a willingness to train for (and prepare to teach using) our college's distance education delivery system. This willingness is needed even though the instructor will be assigned to face-to-face courses.
- Demonstrates a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
- Maintains access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication.
- Prepares and utilizes a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
- Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
- Evaluates students' performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner.
- Assists in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
- Provides recommendations to the Academic Dean, Assistant Dean, Department Heads, and Curriculum Resource Team regarding curriculum.
- Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
- Submits timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions/departments.
- Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
- Possesses a passion for teaching community college and dual credit high school students.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills, both written and orally
- Responsible for other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
- Master's Degree in Sociology (or a Master's Degree in a related field where the applicant has 18 graduate hours in Sociology courses)
- At least 3 years experience teaching dual credit college students at a high school location
Minimum Competencies
- Must be able to teach to dual credit high school students in the field of Sociology, at the Columbus High School Campus, on at least 2 weekdays for selected times that will fall between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 5 years experience teaching dual credit college students at a high school location
- Experience teaching Sociology to dual credit college students at a high school location
