Job Description for the Position of President, Eastern Oklahoma State College (2025-2026)

Eastern Oklahoma State College (Eastern), located in Wilburton, Oklahoma, is seeking an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the 21st President of the College. This role provides an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established community college, fostering growth and advancement for students and the local community in beautiful southeastern Oklahoma. The President will work closely with the Board of Regents and a wide range of community stakeholders to continue Easterns tradition of excellence and enhance its mission of cultivating growth, creating futures, and changing lives.

Reporting Structure: The President serves as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the College and reports directly to the Eastern Oklahoma State College Board of Regents, which is composed of seven members appointed by the Governor of Oklahoma.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Strategic Direction: Serve as the face of the College, providing visionary leadership to advance innovation while maintaining a strong commitment to the Colleges mission and traditions. The President will develop and implement strategic initiatives that increase student access, retention, graduation, and career-readiness.
  • Policy & Governance: Act as the primary advisor to the Board of Regents in all matters related to the Colleges educational and business policies. Develop, recommend, and implement policies that align with the Colleges mission and goals. Ensure the execution of Board policies and directives and report regularly to the Board on the Colleges operations.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the Colleges budgetary and financial management, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic goals. Prepare and submit budget estimates, manage expenditures, and recommend budget revisions as necessary. Lead major grant initiatives to secure funding for the Colleges programs.
  • Community & External Relations: Represent the College to a variety of internal and external constituencies, including the public, legislators, businesses, government agencies, and educational organizations. Foster positive relationships with local businesses, industry, economic development groups, and civic leaders to ensure Easterns active engagement in regional growth and community development.
  • Student Success & Support: Ensure the College provides effective support for low-income, first-generation, and at-risk students. Lead efforts to enhance student success services and create an inclusive environment for both traditional and non-traditional students.
  • Partnership Development: Strengthen relationships with local school districts, other higher education institutions, and business and industry partners. Promote collaboration and resource sharing to benefit the College and the broader community.
  • Accreditation & Compliance: Assure compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation requirements, including those of the Higher Learning Commission. Lead efforts to maintain and improve the Colleges accreditation status.
  • Cultural Leadership & Diversity: Respect and promote diversity within the student body and workforce, ensuring a culture of inclusion and understanding in both educational and work environments.
  • Personnel Leadership: Recommend the hiring of key administrative officers, faculty, and staff. Lead and motivate faculty and staff to foster a collaborative, high-performance work environment.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Board of Regents, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals and responsibilities of the Presidents office.

Qualifications:

  • A doctorate from an accredited institution.
  • Proven success in executive leadership, particularly in a community college environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow enrollment and build new academic and workforce programs.
  • Experience working with a governing board, faculty, staff, and community and business leaders.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills, with experience in resource allocation and grant management.
  • A commitment to diversity, with a proven record of supporting multi-cultural populations and fostering inclusivity.
  • Political astuteness and the ability to navigate relationships with local, state, federal, and tribal governments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead diverse stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated ability to implement strategic initiatives and achieve results in a complex environment.
