Postdoctoral Associate
Required Qualifications
(as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field in hand by Nov. 1, 2025.
Preferred Qualifications
Experiences in electromagnetic transient analysis, grid-forming IBR modeling, quantum computing, power system stability, cybersecurity, real-time digital simulation, and/or networked microgrids.
Brief Description of Duties
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr. Peng Zhang in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The incumbent will conduct research within the predetermined research scope and methodology, and conduct research in the fields of quantum-engineered power grids and AI-enabled smart grids.
- Develop deployable quantum and AI technologies for reliable and secure power systems.
- Deliver quantum electromagnetic transient programs and integrate them with specific platforms.
- Develop formal verification algorithms and prototypes on large microgrids, Naval systems, and utility systems.
- Assist grant proposal writing, work collaboratively with industry and government, and mentor graduate students in strategic areas.
- Collect, analyze and maintain data in the relevant fields.
- Participate in manuscript writing for publication in top journals; collaborate with the PI on new monographs.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include lab/testbed maintenance, organizing and attending meetings, presenting results in major conferences and workshops.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
