Research Assistant - Biological Sciences
Job Summary
The research assistant will be responsible for organizing and maintaining a neuroscience research laboratory specializing in neural systems and behavior. The research assistant will assist with laboratory safety and compliance, frog colony care, protocol development, and data collection and analysis. The research assistant will also manage research projects and supervise undergraduate students, both paid workers and those seeking credit hours. Experience with cell and molecular laboratory techniques, data analysis, and animal care is preferred, but training will be provided. The incumbent will supervise undergraduate researchers and animal caretakers, but no full-time employees.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include, but are not limited to:
- General Lab Management; organization, protocol development, safety, and compliance.
- Supervision of undergraduate researchers.
- Molecular and histological techniques.
- Research project management.
- Frog Colony Care.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting. OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years of experience in a research or clinical area.
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Biology/neuroscience or equivalent. Familiarity with wet lab techniques and data management. Experience in animal care, histology, molecular biology, and statistical analyses. Experience with cell and molecular laboratory techniques, data analysis, and animal care is preferred, but training will be provided.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of wet lab techniques and data management. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. SKILLS Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. ABILITIES Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required). Salary Minimum: $17.88 per hour. Pay Band: B5 Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position. Recruitment Period: Until Filled. Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees and some of our half-time (or more) employees. Conditions of Employment
All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Augusta University. If applicable for the specific position based on the duties: the candidate will also need to have a credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage. Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive an Augusta University vehicle.
