Based in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, this role will focus on electromagnetic design, modelling and validation of microwave heating technologies for the BioIron™ project—a groundbreaking collaboration with Rio Tinto to decarbonise the iron and steel-making industry. The iron and steel-making industry is responsible for around 11% of the global CO2 emissions; the BioIron™ project is therefore a crucial industry/university collaboration, seeking to shape a sustainable future for steelmaking and accelerating the global transition to a low-carbon economy. This team-based role focusses on electromagnetic design, computational modelling (e.g., COMSOL, CST, ANSYS), dielectric characterisation, and testing that help to bridge the gap between laboratory-scale research and industrial deployment. The successful candidate will also contribute to developing other novel electromagnetic heating processes in industries such as industrial minerals, food, and chemical processing. The post is offered on a full time (36.25 hours per week), fixed term contract until 31st December 2026.
