Research Technician in the Division of Science (Biology) – Dr. Aashish Jha
The Genetic Heritage Group in the Science Division, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research technician to work on human and animal population genetics.
The successful applicant will work on cutting-edge projects investigating human population histories and the emerging role of gut microbiomes in human adaptations. Our laboratory integrates population genomics, metagenomics, and evolutionary modeling to uncover how host genetics and microbial communities have co-evolved across diverse human populations.
The candidate will contribute to generating and analyzing large-scale genomic and metagenomic datasets, including whole-genome sequencing, microbial metagenomics, and functional genomic profiling. They will be involved in developing analytical pipelines for demographic inference, selection scans, host–microbe association mapping, and phylogeographic analyses. The work will also incorporate comparative genomics, genome-wide association approaches, and statistical modeling of evolutionary processes.
The candidate will join a highly multidisciplinary environment consisting of population geneticists, microbiome scientists, statisticians, and computational biologists, as well as graduate and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have a B.Sc. in cell and molecular biology or related field. Excellent bioinformatics skills relevant to the project (in particular genomics and microbiome analyses) are required. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a research laboratory or computational research setting, experience working with genomic or microbiome data and demonstrated ability to use standard analytical tools.
For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, transcript, statement of research interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Aashish Jha at jhaar@nyu.edu.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
