Researcher in Bioethics

Oxford Population Health (Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford), Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7LF

The Ethox Centre is an internationally recognised multidisciplinary bioethics research centre at the University of Oxford. It is located within the Nuffield Department of Population Health. Ethox is a friendly, vibrant and intellectually stimulating place to work

We are seeking a Researcher in Bioethics to work closely with Professor Michael Parker and Professor Patricia Kingori on a project called ‘What Should We Talk About?’ This Project is an activity of the ANTITHESES Platform for Transformative Inclusivity in Ethics and Humanities. ANTITHESES addresses an urgent need for research that can engage meaningfully with the radical moral disagreements and informational uncertainty characteristic of contemporary medical science, practice, and policy.

Against a background of increasing polarisation, contestation, and radical moral disagreement, the question of what should be talked about can be highly charged. The role will include undertaking reviews and analyses of relevant ethics, social science, and political philosophy literature, drafting papers, developing and coordinating a seminar series, and overseeing the development of a journal special issue, and of a podcast on this cluster of topics.

You will hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, have relevant experience in the integration of social science methods and ethical analysis and possess sufficient specialist knowledge of ethics to work within established research programmes.

This is a full time (part time considered), fixed term for 2 years.

The closing date for applications is noon on 14 July 2025.

You will be required to upload a CV and a cover letter as part of your online application. The cover letter should clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria listed in the job description.
