Job Description

The School of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications and nominations for two full-time faculty leadership positions: Chair of the Acute, Chronic and Continuing Care Department, and Chair of the Family, Community and Health Systems Department.

Each Department Chair serves as a key member of the school's leadership team and reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Professional Development and Faculty Affairs. The Chair is responsible for the administration and daily operations of their department, including faculty development, academic program support, faculty and staff evaluation, and advancing the School's missions of teaching, scholarship, and service. The role is dynamic with the specific focus dependent on the three missions of the SON and UAB.

Required Qualifications

Candidates for the Department Chair faculty position must have a distinguished record of external funding and scholarly achievement, a consistent record of peer-reviewed publications, experience in mentoring faculty, evidence of exemplary professional citizenship and leadership, and documentation of outstanding teaching and mentoring performance. Candidates must demonstrate achievement of professional recognition at the national or international level that will enhance the stature of the School and UAB. Candidates must possess a graduate degree in nursing and a doctorate in nursing or a related field, a minimum of five years of academic experience as an educator, mentor and scholar, and hold active licensure or be eligible for licensure as an RN in Alabama. Applicants should qualify for appointment at the rank of Professor.
