Job Description
- Design and Conduct Experiments: Independently design, optimize, and execute experiments relevant to the mechanisms and therapeutics of SMA, SMARD, and/or CMT. This may involve: Molecular and Cellular Techniques: motor neuron cultures, primary cells; DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and molecular cloning. Animal Models: Managing and performing experiments on relevant mouse or other animal models (e.g., phenotyping, behavioral testing, drug administration, survival studies, surgery, and tissue collection). Advanced Techniques such as: AAV gene therapy and assessment of various therapeutics on neuromuscular phenotypes; utilizing state-of-the-art methods like single-cell/spatial transcriptomics, proteomics; or advanced microscopy (e.g., confocal, live-cell imaging).
- Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous, up-to-date records of all experimental design, procedures, and results in a lab notebook.
- Data Analysis: Rigorously analyze complex datasets using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools.
- Manuscript Preparation: Lead the writing and revision of manuscripts for submission to high-impact, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Presentation: Prepare and present research findings at weekly lab meetings, departmental seminars, and national/international scientific conferences related to neuromuscular diseases or neuroscience.
- Grant Writing: Contribute to or lead the preparation of grant proposals (e.g., fellowship applications, foundation grants) to secure independent or collaborative funding.
- Mentorship: Mentor and train junior lab members, including research assistants, graduate students, and undergraduate students, on experimental techniques and lab safety.

Must be available for reliable and consistent onsite work.
Shift
Monday - Friday, 8-5pm
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in related/relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
5 years experience in research lab, neuroscience, biochemistry, or respiration experience preferred.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $96,054.40 per year
Grade: GGS-010
