About This Opportunity
This five‑year Senior Research Fellowship offers an excellent opportunity to undertake applied, cross‑disciplinary research in geometallurgy. The role focuses on using data from a range of characterisation technologies to develop predictive insights into the metallurgical and geoenvironmental behaviour of orebodies.
The Senior Research Fellow will further develop their research profile to achieve national and international recognition, while contributing to high‑level service and engagement activities at The University of Queensland.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Research: Establish a research program, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, and participate in project discussions. Utilise best practice research methodologies, undertake high quality, applied research that contributes to the national/international recognition and impact of geometallurgical research at the Sustainable Minerals Institute.
- Teaching: Whilst no formal teaching commitment is required in this role, the Senior Research Fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of teaching materials and training modules in the field of geometallurgy.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
- Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You
- A PhD in the discipline area (geometallurgy) or a related field (geology/ geoscience, mining/metallurgical engineering)
- Expertise in geological characterisation techniques (core logging and/or mapping, geochemistry, mineralogy)
- Experience with established and emerging characterisation technologies (e.g., core scanning platforms/technologies)
- An understanding of metallurgical and geoenvironmental test work approaches and new or emerging technologies in this area
- An established and nationally recognised research profile in geometallurgy, with an internationally developing reputation, supported by publications in reputable refereed journals and conference presentations.
- A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
- A solid record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.
- A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with a strong contribution to external activities
