FTE: 1.0 FTE (working 37 hours per week)

Duration of Contract: Fixed Term for 2 years

Salary: UH8 £46,049 pa to £58,225 pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development and delivery of the University’s Management Information solutions to support the University’s needs for Data Integration and Business Intelligence (BI) as well as key performance indicators which underpin its decision-making processes. The Solutions Architect will be responsible for the provision of specialist expertise for specifically assigned projects, for example new Management Information and Cloud based Client Relationship Management Systems, and Data Warehouse and Document and Content Management initiatives.

You will also be responsible for the development, management and third line support of Integration, Identity Management and Information services, ensuring the reliable interoperability and secure exchange of data flowing between systems and applications software.

Skills and experience required

You will have substantial, proven practical expertise in the development and configuration of enterprise level software solutions and databases within a large enterprise networked environment. You will demonstrate proven analytical abilities, an aptitude for understanding new systems, and the ability to see how they integrate within a wider enterprise architecture. You must be able to present complex technical information clearly and effectively, both verbally and in documentation.

In addition, you will bring modern data development and engineering capabilities, with expertise in some of the following:

• End‑to‑end solution architecture, systems design, and engineering
• Alteryx, SQL, MS SQL Server, and Oracle RDBMS
• Python for data engineering, automation, and integration workflows
• Containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable, robust deployment
• Modern integration and orchestration approaches, including RESTful APIs and event‑driven architectures
• Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and associated data services
• Version control (Git) and collaborative development practices, including CI/CD pipelines
• Business intelligence and data visualisation tools, such as Tableau or Power BI
• Knowledge of Higher Education MIS systems (highly desirable)
• Data governance, security, metadata, and data quality management

You will demonstrate good documentation and testing practice, and familiarity with source‑controlled, automated development workflows.

Qualifications required

You will be educated with a minimum of a Degree or equivalent, or proven experience. You will also hold a qualification in computing at professional level or equivalent expertise and experience.
