The Department of Statistics invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, commencing September 1, 2026, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department seeks emerging scholars with experience in Statistics or Data Science. Outstanding candidates with research interests and contributions in any area relevant to Data Science will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will complement or extend the Department’s strengths in Statistics and Data Science. The successful candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or a related area with distinguishing attributes grounded in Data Science at the start date of the appointment, and show a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research.

The ideal candidates will bring and support new synergies within and potentially outside the Department. Applied experience in areas of applications such as environmental sciences, health sciences, bioinformatics and postdoctoral experience in interdisciplinary research would also be considered an asset.

Duties will include undergraduate teaching and supervision, graduate teaching and supervision, research, including establishing and maintaining an externally funded research program, and service-related activities. The successful candidate will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment. Candidates will either have, or will be expected to establish and maintain an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally funded research program. Candidates will have demonstrated strength in or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions in Statistics and Data Science.

To enhance our department and create role models for a diverse population of students, we particularly invite applications from those who can support and enhance our diversity, including women, Indigenous peoples, other visible minorities, and those committed to an inclusive environment. We encourage candidates to self-identity aspects of their identity that position them to bring currently under-represented viewpoints, expertise and forms of excellence to this role.

The Department currently has 14 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 5 Instructors, and offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Statistics. The Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) Prairies Regional Centre is also housed within the Department.
