Job Description
The Vice Provost of Academic and Faculty Affairs serves as the Provost's chief advisor and senior administrative officer on all matters related to academic and faculty personnel. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Vice Provost provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for faculty affairs across the University and works collaboratively with the Academic Deans of the six Colleges and Schools, the Dean of Graduate Studies, faculty leadership, and other academic stakeholders, such as Access and Enrollment Services (ACES), to advance the goals and priorities of the University's strategic plan, Grand Momentum:2025-2030.
The Vice Provost ensures institutional compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), accrediting standards, and University policies while fostering a culture of shared governance, academic excellence, transparency, and accountability.
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution.
- Tenured faculty rank or qualifications appropriate for senior academic leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of faculty governance, tenure and promotion processes, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience working collaboratively with faculty, academic administrators, and governance bodies.
- Strong understanding of academic policy development and higher education administration.
- Proven national leadership in higher education academic and faculty affairs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Senior-level academic administrative experience (e.g., dean, associate/assistant provost).
- Experience in a unionized higher education environment.
- Familiarity with the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) principles and shared governance models.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex processes, deadlines, and multiple stakeholders.
Physical Demands

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will probably be low to moderate at times.

Advertised Job Duties
Faculty Affairs and Academic Administration
- Provide leadership and oversight for all faculty-related matters, including appointments, reappointments, tenure, promotion, sabbaticals, leaves, overload contracts, and faculty grievances.
- Oversee and ensure the integrity, consistency, and compliance of tenure and promotion processes across academic units, with particular attention to contractual timelines and deadlines as stipulated in the CBA.
- Maintain official faculty files and manage faculty databases and records to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and institutional compliance.
- Provide leadership and oversight to ACES administrative leadership.
- Provide leadership to the Provost's Strategic Enrollment Management Committee (SEM).
Policy Development and Compliance
- Research, develop, interpret, and implement faculty and academic personnel policies, procedures, guidelines, and forms.
- Ensure University compliance with the CBA, institutional policies, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Serve as the Provost's primary liaison on the CBA and provide guidance on contract interpretation and implementation.
Shared Governance and Faculty Leadership
- Work collaboratively with faculty leadership and advise the Provost on matters related to the AAUP.
- Attend meetings of the Faculty Senate.
- Represent the Provost on academic standing committees and administrative committees as assigned.
- Coordinate and monitor the work of academic standing committees to ensure alignment with University priorities and governance processes.
Academic Partnerships and External Engagement
- Monitor, manage, and ensure compliance with Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with academic institutions in the Eastern Caribbean and other areas, with special emphasis on student and faculty exchange agreements.
- Collaborate with academic leadership to strengthen partnerships that enhance teaching, research, and academic programming.
- Lead efforts to manage and strengthen ACES operations.
- Represent the Provost as a SEM Committee leader.
Strategic Planning and Institutional Effectiveness
- Collaborate with Academic Deans, Graduate Studies leadership, and other administrators to advance the goals of the university's strategic plan,Grand Momentum: 2025-2030.
- Provide analysis, recommendations, and reporting to the Provost on faculty trends, workload, productivity, and personnel matters.
- Support institutional accreditation and program review processes as they relate to faculty qualifications and academic standards.
