The Religion (BA) at the University of Waterloo is an interdisciplinary program offered through the Faculty of Arts. It examines the historical, cultural, and philosophical dimensions of major world religions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Objectives include developing critical thinking skills, understanding religious diversity, and exploring the role of religion in contemporary society. Unique features include the optional co-op program, allowing students to gain practical experience, and an emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches combining history, philosophy, and social sciences.
Graduates develop skills in analysis, communication, and cultural awareness, leading to opportunities in education, social services, journalism, law, non-profit organizations, and public policy. Many pursue further studies in religious studies, theology, or related fields.
The program benefits from affiliations with Conrad Grebel University College, which provides specialized resources in peace and conflict studies related to religion. Access to the university's extensive library collections on religious texts and multi-faith spaces supports research and community engagement.
