The Cooper University Hospital Camden Campus, part of the Cooper Health Sciences Campus, is the primary hub for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This facility specializes in advanced diagnostic pathology services, comprehensive residency training, and collaborative research, serving as the base for the ACGME-accredited four-year Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) Residency Program affiliated with Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. With a focus on delivering 24/7 laboratory services to a diverse South Jersey patient population, the campus emphasizes hands-on education through autopsies, tumor boards, microscope sessions, and clinical consultations, fostering expertise in translational pathology and personalized diagnostics.
Under leadership of Chairman Roland Schwarting, MD, PhD, the faculty provides mentorship to eight pathology residents (two per year), medical students, and fellows. Educational activities include daily sign-out sessions, grand rounds, journal clubs, and research in areas like cancer genomics through partnerships with the Coriell Institute and external rotations at sites such as Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The campus supports innovative research in the Camden Cancer Research Center, advancing clinical trials and biomarker discovery specific to this academic medical center environment.
