Groundskeeper Position Type: Classified Department: Campus Operations Full or Part Time: Full Time Pay Grade: BW3 Summary: Perform all grounds maintenance functions including mowing, trimming, snow removal, campus greenhouse operations, maintenance of trees, shrubs and flowers and policing for trash and debris removal. Principal Functional Responsibilities: Grounds Maintenance and Cleanliness: Perform various tasks related to grounds maintenance, such as mowing, trimming, edging, aerating, and
removing snow and ice. Keep campus grounds, walkways, and parking areas clean and free of debris for safety and aesthetic purposes. Greenhouse Operations and Landscaping: Operate campus greenhouse and cultivates plants and flowers for use on campus grounds. Maintain, renovate, and/or build campus landscaping to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the campus. Plant Care and Maintenance: Plant, transplant, and/or prune trees, shrubs, and flowers to maintain the landscape. Pesticide Application: Perform pesticide applications as needed to control weeds and insects in the landscape and throughout the campus, ensuring compliance with manufacturer's labels and regulatory requirements. Miscellaneous Duties: Change and clean campus exterior refuse containers to maintain cleanliness and sanitation. Perform auto mechanic responsibilities as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent Valid State of Ohio vehicle operator's license Prior grounds/landscaping maintenance experience Knowledge of grounds maintenance, equipment and safety procedures Ability to perform duties outdoors exposed to variable weather conditions Availability to be on call 24 hours, 7 days a week Preferred Qualifications: Commercial Applications License Physical Requirements: Must be able to utilize applicable tools and equipment necessary for the job, as well as other office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, sit; talk; and hear. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Working Conditions: Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, air pollution and heights. May involve exposure to chemical substances, hazards and moving parts of machinery. Work schedule is subject to change in accordance with the University's needs and/or the result of weather demands. Call-ins may be mandatory based on University needs.
