DESCRIPTION
This position is a full-time tenure track, 10-month classroom teaching assignment in the Health & Safety Sciences Division. Paramedic Instructor reports directly to the Director of Emergency Medical Services Programs. The Paramedic Lead Instructor provides quality learning experiences, facilitates the learning process, advises students, seeks professional development opportunities, and contributes to the development of courses/programs. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and/or Saturday classes.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
DUTIES:
- Teach fifteen lecture hour equivalents per semester in Paramedic using various teaching methods including demonstrations and active learning strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Classroom Instruction
- Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction.
- Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.
- Evaluate student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback.
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs.
- Maintain cleanliness of instructional areas and laboratories.
- Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s).
- Recommend textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Coordinator.
- Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria.
Other Services to Students
• Maintain appropriate accessibility for students.
• Serve as educational advisor to assigned students by providing academic and employment planning.
• Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College.
• Advocate and provide motivation for students.
• Communicate student needs to Director or Coordinator.
Administrative Expectations
- Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and
all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner meeting
all deadlines, checking for accuracy, correctness and completeness
of all data.
- Exert an effort to remain current in discipline and
instructional methods through professional development activities
offered by the school and other opportunities including attendance
at off-campus activities, webinars, etc., as feasible.
- Participate in program and curriculum review, offering
suggestions concerning the improvement of curriculum in keeping
with the mission and vision of the consortium.
- Serve on and actively contribute to school committees as needed
and as appointed by the President.
- Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and
institutional meetings and other announced co-curricular activities
of the school.
- Maintain proper communication and supportive relationships at
all times with all other units and branches of the school.
- Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to
fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional
obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the discipline,
department, division, and school.
- Most current Minimum Qualifications for Faculty in
California Community Colleges: (Applicant must meet one of the
following requirements)

a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 5 § 53024.1).
ADDITIONAL REQUIRRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three year’s EMS experience at the paramedic level of certification.
- Current CPR certification.
- Must have current valid, non-probationary California Paramedic License, MD, or RN license.
- NAEMSE Instructor I or similar 40hr education course that meets the requirements in the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Social Security, Division 9, Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Services, Chapter 4, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, Article 3, 100150 (b), Teaching Staff, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- National Registry of EMTs (NRP).
- Two year’s post-secondary instructor experience.
- NAEMT Instructor (all disciplines, incl: EPC, GEMS, EVOS, PHTLs/ITLS, AMLS)
- AHA Instructor (all disciplines, incl: BLS, ACLS, PALS).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software
- Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
- District policies and procedures.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
- Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities.
- Read and comprehend printed matter and text and data on computer monitors
- Communicate intelligibly and effectively via speech, telephone, written correspondence, and/or email
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Lift and/or carry 50 pounds
- Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.
