Aaron Davis is Associate Professor of Design and Health and Senior Lecturer in the School of Architecture and Built Environment, College of Creative Arts, Design and Humanities, at Adelaide University, where he teaches courses including Advanced Environments and Technologies (ARCH 6002) and Environmental Design and the Sensory Body (ARCH1020). His academic qualifications comprise a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture (University of South Australia, 2019), Master of Architecture (2015), Master of Sustainable Design (2014), Bachelor of Architectural Studies (2011), and Bachelor of Music (University of Adelaide, 2008). Davis's research centers on co-design, community engagement, strategic design, and the nexus between physical environments and health outcomes, developing frameworks for participant-centred co-design that have been adopted in the Australasian Health Facility Design Guidelines and the European Commission's Health Cascade project. His work has attracted over $16 million in funding, involved international keynotes, and positioned him as a leading co-design facilitator influencing health systems design globally.
Among his accolades are the Unstoppable Mid-Career Teaching and Learning Award and Unstoppable Early Career Researcher Award (both University of South Australia, 2024), Best Health and Wellbeing Program (Australian Workplace Health & Safety Awards, 2024), Innovation in Teaching Award (2023), European Healthcare Design Research Award (Royal College of Physicians, UK, 2022), and Salzburg Global Seminar Fellowship (2016). Key publications feature "Rehabilitation Environments: New Insights to Guide Stroke Inpatient Service Redesign" (Stroke, 2026, co-authored with J.P. Saa et al.), "My lived experience was valued": Co-designing 'OA Champions'" (The Journal of Pain, 2026, co-authored with M.V. Wilson et al.), "Improving access to co-design through remote, adapted, and asynchronous approaches: a case study of the Neuroscience Optimised Virtual Environments Living Lab (NOVELL)" (CoDesign, 2026), "Principles and attributes of evidence-based co-creation" (Public Health, 2025, co-authored with S.F.M.
