Adam Lloyd is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the School of Education within the College of Human and Social Futures at the University of Newcastle. He earned his PhD from the University of Newcastle in May 2015, Master of Education from the University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Engineering (Honours Class 1) and Diploma in Education from the University of Newcastle. His professional career includes teaching in schools across Australia and the United Kingdom, lecturing at the University of Newcastle, serving as Head of Mathematics at Snowy Mountains Grammar School until 2023, and currently holding a management position at the NSW Office of Sport.
Lloyd's research specializations encompass parenting practices and strategies aimed at preventing childhood obesity and elucidating parental influences on children's lifestyle behaviors. He is also dedicated to enhancing equity and excellence in education, with a particular emphasis on STEM disciplines. Notable projects include a randomised controlled trial on Quality Teaching Rounds, evaluation of an in-school numeracy program, and exploration of student career aspirations through a large longitudinal study. He has obtained 16 grants amounting to $1,912,733 and supervised three postgraduate research students to completion. Key publications feature "Effects of professional development on the quality of teaching: Results from a randomised controlled trial of Quality Teaching Rounds" (Gore et al., 2017, Teaching and Teacher Education), "Involvement of Fathers in Pediatric Obesity Treatment and Prevention Trials: A Systematic Review" (Morgan et al., 2017, Pediatrics), "Paternal Lifestyle-Related Parenting Practices Mediate Changes in Children's Dietary and Physical Activity Behaviors" (Lloyd et al., 2015, Journal of Physical Activity & Health), "Parental Influences on Those Seeking a Career in STEM: The Primacy of Gender" (Lloyd et al., 2018), and "Impact of a Father–Child, Community-Based Healthy Lifestyle Program: Qualitative Perspectives from the Family Unit" (Ashton et al., 2023, Journal of Child and Family Studies). Lloyd has disseminated his findings through publications in international peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
