About Adriatik

Dr. Adriatik Likcani serves as Associate Professor of Child and Family Development and Marriage and Family Therapy Program Director in the Human Development and Family Science department at the University of Central Missouri. He earned his Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Kansas State University in May 2013, Master of Social Work from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in August 2011, Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in December 2004, Post-Degree Certificate in Medical Family Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in August 2003, and Bachelor of Science as Teacher of English as a Second Language from the University of Tirana, Albania, in June 1995. A Licensed Marital and Family Therapist in Missouri, Dr. Likcani is a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an alumnus of the Minority Fellowship Program, having served two years as a member and one year as chair of its Advisory Committee. He previously held positions as President of the Missouri Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and Co-Chair of Family TEAM for Missouri, organized by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. His career includes extensive involvement in residential and outpatient treatment and recovery support programs for substance use disorders, as well as nonprofit community-based initiatives in treatment, prevention, recovery support, grant writing, program design, implementation, evaluation, advocacy, policy, leadership, and management.

Dr. Likcani's research interests include treatment for individuals with substance use disorders and their families, recovery courts, collegiate recovery programs, offender reentry, domestic violence, use of telehealth, diversity and cultural awareness, policy, and advocacy. Portions of his work have received funding from state and federal grants, including from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to develop and pilot test a family therapy program for substance use disorders in response to the opioid crisis. Key refereed publications comprise 'Differentiation and Intimate Partner Violence' (The American Journal of Family Therapy, 2017, with Stith, Spencer, Webb, and Peterson); 'The Moderating Effect of Sibling Delinquency on Risky Behavior During Emerging Adulthood' (Journal of Social Sciences, 2017, with Simons, Peterson, and Hickey); 'Training for collaboration: collaborative practice skills for mental health professionals' (Journal of Marriage and Family Therapy, 2012, with Bischoff, Springer, Reisbig, and Schultz); 'Reliability and validity of the Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale with different response formats in a sample of U.S. army personnel' (Individual Differences Research, 2008, with Schumm, Crock, Akagi, and Bosch); and 'E-Health: An exploratory study of trust building elements in behavioral health websites' (Journal of Information Science and Technology, 2006, with Faja). An additional publication is 'Challenges and resiliencies of female college students from divorced families' (The McNair Journal, 2015, with Rogers). Committed to bridging academia and practice, Dr. Likcani prepares students with a service culture, knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead regionally, nationally, and globally.
