About Ainsley

Ainsley Newson is Professor of Bioethics at Sydney Health Ethics, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, a position held since 1 January 2020. Holding a BSc (Hons) with first-class honours in human genetics, LLB (Hons), and PhD in Bioethics from the University of Melbourne, she brings over 25 years of expertise in bioethics. Previously, Newson served as Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Ethics at the University of Bristol from 2006 to 2012. Her research specializations encompass the ethical, legal, and social implications of genomics, reproduction, and emerging genetic technologies. As a leading bioethicist, her scholarship shapes national and international approaches to these fields. She leads the LINEAGE Project, investigating law, sociology, and ethics in genomic data governance, and contributes to projects such as Genomics4Newborns.
