Dr Aisha Paulose serves as Senior Professional Practice Fellow in the Department of Primary Health Care, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Otago in Dunedin. She holds qualifications of BSc(Hons), MBBS, DCH, DFSRH, MRCGP, PGCE, and FRNZCGP. In her clinical role, she practices as a General Practitioner at Winton Medical Services, with a focus on rural healthcare. Paulose is deeply involved in medical education, serving as the lead medical educator for the General Practice Education Programme 1 (GPEP1) regional training scheme for Otago and Southland. She also acts as medical educator for GPEP2/3 learning groups, PGY2 educator, and teaches medical students in clinical practice settings. As an educational supervisor for the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ), she contributes to professional development, and delivers specialized training on child safeguarding and primary care triage for the Ministry of Health (MOH).
Passionate about promoting research and leadership in clinical medicine, Dr Paulose has contributed to scholarly work in primary health care education and training. She is a co-author on the 2024 publication 'The costs, barriers and enablers of providing PGY2 placements in general practice in Aotearoa New Zealand: A mixed-methods study' in the Journal of Primary Health Care (16(2), 151-159), alongside Carol Atmore, Tim Sullivan, Jessica Millar, Andy Shute, Dot Brown, and Tim Stokes. Additionally, she presented at the 2018 Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) Conference on 'Changing the focus of peer group discussions from disease-management to professional and other challenges,' with Hamish Wilson, Janet Barton, Amanda Begg, Natasha Thompson, Udaya Settinayake, and Liz Lack. Paulose is a member of the RNZCGP and the MCNZ Performance Assessment Committee. She represents primary care on the South Island Regional Cancer Psychological and Social Support Steering Group and the National Lung Cancer Working Group. Further, she works as Clinical Editor for Southern Healthpathways and Clinical Advisor for Wellsouth Primary Health Organisation, enhancing regional healthcare delivery and pathways.
