Akiko Fujita is Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Meiji Gakuin University, affiliated with the Department of International Business. She earned her PhD in Business Administration from Meiji Gakuin University in April 2012 and a Master's degree in Business Administration from Kobe University of Commerce Graduate School, where she acquired doctoral program units before withdrawing. Her career at Meiji Gakuin University commenced in April 1999 as Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics, advancing to Professor in that department from April 2001 to March 2006, and subsequently to Professor in the Department of International Business from April 2006 to present. Earlier, she served at Saga University in the Faculty of Economics from April 1990 to March 1999, holding positions as Lecturer from April 1990 to March 1991 and Associate Professor from April 1991 to March 1999.
Fujita specializes in financial accounting, focusing on accounting for intangible assets, fair value measurement, IFRS convergence, and French accounting standards. She authored the book Framework for Accounting of Intangible Assets (Chuokeizai-sha, 2012). Key publications include "Current Status and Challenges of Accounting for Intangible Assets" in Disclosure & IR (2020), "Convergence of Accounting Standards in France" in Disclosure & IR (2018), "Fair Value Measurement of Intangible Assets" in Japanese Association for International Accounting Studies Newsletter (2017), "Goodwill Accounting Methods in France" in Zeikei Tsushin (2018), and co-authored "Le Japon face aux normes internationales" in Revue Française de Comptabilité (2015). Additional works address non-financial disclosure, regulatory assets, and customer contracts under revenue standards. She leads seminars analyzing corporate disclosure for investment decisions, emphasizing financial and non-financial information like ESG and integrated reports. Fujita belongs to the International Accounting Research Society, Accounting History Society, and Japanese Accounting Association, and teaches Accounting History, Bookkeeping, Consolidated Accounting, and seminars.
