Akira Yokoi is a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Nagoya University Hospital and is affiliated with the Nagoya University Institute for Advanced Research. He earned his PhD in Medicine from Nagoya University in 2017, following studies at the Graduate School of Medicine from 2014 to 2017. His career includes positions as Assistant Professor at Nagoya University Hospital from 2020 to 2023, Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2018 to 2020, and earlier roles at the National Cancer Center Research Institute and with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
Yokoi’s research centers on tumor biology, with a focus on ovarian cancer, extracellular vesicles, exosomes, liquid biopsy, and microRNAs. He has authored numerous publications, including key papers in Nature Communications (2018) on integrated extracellular microRNA profiling for ovarian cancer screening and in Science Advances (2019, 2023) on mechanisms of nuclear content loading to exosomes and identifying high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma-specific extracellular vesicles. Additional recent works appear in Science Advances (2026) and Nature Communications (2023). Yokoi has received multiple awards, such as the JSOG Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award in 2023, the Medical Research Encouragement Prize from the Japan Medical Association in 2024, and various encouragement awards from Nagoya University and professional societies. He serves as a delegate for the Japan Society of Gynecologic Oncology.
