Ali Cameron is a Research Adviser in Health Research South within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Otago, located on the first floor of Dunedin Public Hospital. She specializes in supporting health sciences researchers by providing comprehensive guidance on research funding opportunities. This includes delivering information on available grants, advising on funds appropriate for specific research interests, assisting with the preparation of required documentation for applications, and facilitating submissions via online portals. Following successful awards, Ali Cameron handles the preparation of contracts and subcontracts, as well as subsequent negotiations and management. She welcomes early contact from researchers, including new staff members, to develop funding proposals and collaborative applications effectively. Her role is integral to Health Research South, which offers a suite of services to enhance research quality and health outcomes, including biostatistical support, locality authorisation for studies involving Te Whatu Ora – Southern resources, patients, or records, and assistance with commercial trial costing and budgeting.
In recognition of her contributions, Ali Cameron received the Excellence in Research Support award in the Departmental Awards category at the University of Otago's 2019 Health Research Excellence Awards, affiliated with the Office of the Dean in the Dunedin School of Medicine. Health Research South, where she works, collaborates closely with the Biostatistics Centre, comprising academic biostatisticians expert in health-related methodologies, to improve research standards across the Division of Health Sciences. Ali Cameron's office hours are scheduled for Monday afternoons, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings, ensuring accessibility for researchers seeking her expertise in contestable funding and contract management. Through her dedicated support, she contributes significantly to the success of health research initiatives at the University of Otago by streamlining the funding process and enabling researchers to focus on their scientific endeavors.
