Alistair Woodward is Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Auckland. He holds a PhD in epidemiology and is an epidemiologist and public health medicine specialist. He served as Head of the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland from 2004 to 2012. Prior to this appointment he led the departments of public health at the University of Otago Wellington and the University of Adelaide.
His research and teaching focus on environmental matters and the social determinants of health. He has worked for the World Health Organization throughout the Pacific region and has been closely involved with the work of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for twenty years.
