Amanda Wilsker is a Professor of Economics in the Business & Economics faculty at Georgia Gwinnett College, where she serves as Interim Chair of the Department of Economics, Supply Chain Management, and Marketing within the School of Business. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from Georgia State University in 2011, along with a master's degree in economics from the same institution and a bachelor's degree in economics from Texas Christian University. In addition, she completed the coursework necessary for a Ph.D. in public policy at Georgia State University and Georgia Institute of Technology. Since joining the faculty at Georgia Gwinnett College in 2011, she has progressed through the academic ranks, including promotion to Associate Professor in 2017, and continues to contribute to the institution through teaching, research, and service.
Dr. Wilsker teaches introductory and upper-level economics courses, such as principles of economics, intermediate microeconomics, applied microeconomics, economics of nonprofits, and public policy. Her teaching approach combines traditional whiteboard methods for graphing and highlighting key concepts with interactive lectures that integrate current events, questions to gauge understanding, and diverse assessments including exams, discussion posts, written papers, service learning, projects, and presentations. She supports student holistic development by offering bonus points for attending economics-related campus events and professional development activities. Her research interests focus on nonprofit economics and finance, public economics, public policy, and applied microeconomics. Wilsker has published in journals including Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly and Public Finance Review, with prominent works such as "Exploring the revenue mix of nonprofit organizations: Does it relate to publicness?" (2011, co-authored with R.L. Fischer and D.R. Young), "How does program composition affect the revenues of nonprofit organizations?: Investigating a benefits theory of nonprofit finance" (2010, co-authored with D.R. Young), "A skills-based approach to improving the economics curriculum: Insights from online job postings using lightcast" (2025, Eastern Economic Journal, co-authored with G. Onodipe et al.), and others on topics like economic pedagogy and remittances. She regularly presents working papers at scholarly conferences. Her contributions have been recognized with the GGC Student Engagement Award in 2017 and nominations for GGC Outstanding Teaching Awards (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020), Student Engagement Awards (2016), Outstanding Service Awards (2017, 2019, 2020), and the Gwinnett Chamber Moxie Award (2020).
