Amber Philpott, of Ngāi Tahu affiliation, serves as a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Māori/Indigenous Health Innovation (MIHI) at the University of Otago, Christchurch, part of the Faculty of Medicine within the Health Sciences Division. She is deeply involved in the design, development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the Hauora Māori curriculum at the University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC). Philpott ensures that the tikanga and kawa of Ngāi Tuahuriri are integrated into the Hauora Māori curriculum and the andragogical approaches employed by MIHI. Her expertise extends to the creation of postgraduate short courses that support health professionals' development in utilizing the Hui Process and the Meihana Model. She focuses on innovative online learning platforms and customizes content for flipped classroom modules dedicated to Hauora Māori topics.
In her teaching portfolio, Philpott delivers content in the undergraduate medical curriculum and leads several postgraduate courses, including MIHI RMO 301, MIHI 501 for Clinical Psychologists, MIHI 601 for Clinical Psychologists, MIHI 501 for RANZCOG, and MIHI 501 for Health Professionals. She holds the New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Reo Rua Levels 1 and 2) and the New Zealand Certificate in Te Reo (Reo Rua Levels 3 and 4), both obtained from Te Whare Wānanga o Aotearoa. Philpott's contributions to the literature include co-authorship on "Introducing the Hauora Māori Equity Toolkit for Specialist Healthcare Services (HMET-SHS)" in the New Zealand Medical Journal (2025, vol. 138, no. 1622, pp. 80-93), "Implementing an indigenous model of practice" in The Clinical Teacher (2021, vol. 18, pp. 502-504), and a conference proceeding "Indigenous health: Designing a clinical orientation program valued by learners" presented at AMEE 2020. In 2024, she was awarded the Robin Fraser Research Supporter of the Year Award, jointly with Maira Patu, for their development of the Māori Health Advancement Programme, highlighting her technological proficiency in the project.
