Amelia Petherick earned a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago in 2001 and a Masters of Physiotherapy in 2013. She brings extensive clinical experience from positions in hospitals and rehabilitation units in Christchurch, Wales, and London. Her practice focuses on neurological and rehabilitation physiotherapy, treating conditions including stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, functional neurological disorder, polio, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, falls, and deconditioning. She employs advanced techniques such as Bobath therapy and other neurological approaches tailored to individual needs.
As a Clinical Educator based in Blenheim for the School of Physiotherapy in the Faculty of Health Professional Programmes, Health Sciences Division at the University of Otago, Amelia Petherick contributes to clinical training for physiotherapy students. In research, she participates as a Neurorehabilitation Physiotherapist on the School of Physiotherapy project 'Physical activity health messaging for men living with long-term conditions and disability,' collaborating with team members including Associate Professor Ally Calder and others. She has also served as a reviewer for the New Zealand Journal of Physiotherapy in 2026.
