Great Professor!
Andreas Ochsner is Conjoint Professor and Honorary Professor in the School of Engineering, College of Engineering, Science and Environment, at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He is associated with the Centre for Mass and Thermal Transport in Engineering Materials. Ochsner obtained his Dipl.-Ing. degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 1997. From 1997 to 2003, he served as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, where he completed his Doctor of Engineering Sciences (Dr.-Ing.) degree. His career trajectory includes Assistant Professor and Head of the Cellular Metals Group in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aveiro, Portugal (2003-2006); Full Professor in the Department of Applied Mechanics at the Technical University of Malaysia (2007-2013), during which he led the Advanced Materials and Structures Lab; Full Professor and Head of Discipline in Mechanical Engineering at Griffith University, Australia; and currently, Professor of Lightweight Design and Structural Simulation at Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, Germany. In 2010, the University of Newcastle awarded him a Visiting Professorship in recognition of his research achievements.
Ochsner's academic interests focus on computational mechanics, finite element method, multiscale materials modelling, and thermal and mass transport in engineering materials, particularly cellular and porous structures. He is the author or co-author of over 200 scientific publications and numerous textbooks, such as "Cellular and Porous Materials: Thermal Properties Simulation and Prediction" (2008), "One-Dimensional Finite Elements: An Introduction to the FE Method" (2021), "Continuum Damage and Fracture Mechanics" (2015), and "Structural Mechanics with a Pen" (2021). Ochsner has chaired more than 12 international conferences and serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals. He was granted the UNESCO Chair Professorship by the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, in 2013.
