He also holds a Conjoint Professorship at the University of New South Wales School of Clinical Medicine.

Professor Holland’s research focuses on paediatric burn injuries, including the development and application of laser Doppler imaging for diagnosis, management, and scar assessment, as well as addressing barriers to optimal care for Indigenous and socially disadvantaged children. His interests extend to paediatric trauma, long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes following neonatal surgery, and models of care for hypospadias and undescended testes. With over 250 peer-reviewed publications—391 documented on ResearchGate—and 6,902 citations, his pioneering work on laser Doppler imaging in paediatric burns ranks among the top 10 most cited articles in the burns literature since 2000. He has obtained collaborative international research grants and scholarships. Notable awards include the Sir Roy McCaughey Surgical Research Scholarship (1998), Surgeon Scientist Scholarship (1999-2001), Australasian Trauma Society Travelling Scholarship (2004), Faculty of Medicine Award for Teaching Excellence (2004), Award for Collective Excellence in Teaching and Learning (2009), and Child and Adolescent Teaching Award, Northern Clinical School (2012).
